A warning for the watchers

by | Feb 28, 2023

Recently I was discussing with other Christians what our responsibilities should be in opening up dialogue on current events of the world. All signs show we’re about to head into some challenging times. What is our role as a church in what is going on?

It’s unfortunate because even the church is divided on such issues.

There is tension in that many are still under a spell that prevents them from seeing. They have a veil over their eyes. One could question if God put it there on purpose.

Our churches are our families. We care for them and want to protect them. We want to pray for the things happening in the world but as we all know too well, they’re surrounded by judgment and labels.

It makes it very difficult to know when or how to say the things you feel need to be said.

This morning I woke up and for reasons beyond my understanding, I opened up to Ezekiel 33.

I’m no theologian. I don’t know my bible inside and out. I don’t know exactly where to go to find a verse, chapter, or book that’s going to give me answers to specific questions. I definitely don’t want to take things out of context. Sometimes, as I did this morning. I open my bible to wherever and read. Even if it’s just one verse.

So here I am reading Ezekiel 33.

v 3-9

When he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life.

But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.’

“So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me. When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you shall surely die!’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. Nevertheless if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

Again, I don’t want to take this out of context. Nor do I believe in replacement theology. This is written by a very specific person for a specific time. But there are great implications and lessons for us as we see history repeat itself over and over. There is a specific message from God to us.

I can’t help but read this and understand that there are Christians to who God has given insight into the specifics of what’s going on in the world. There is a great judgement coming and we’re commanded to warn people.

Our churches are the very place where we can and should openly speak about the wickedness of the world and the judgement God brings as a result of it. A place where we can pray together for God’s insight on how we are to respond to such an event. We cannot also assume that those with us in the church are all saved and their hearts are rightly focused on God, and may need such a warning.

If we’re sounding the trumpet to warn people and they do not listen, that’s on them.

If we’re not sounding the trumpet to warn people, that’s on us and we will need to answer to God on why we didn’t fulfill our obligation.

We’re not responsible for the actions of those we warn. Our job is not to convince those of what is coming, it’s to simply warn them.

I’m not here to convince you that judgment is coming, that the West is under attack.

I’m not here to convince you that great disease, famine, and death are coming. I’m just here to warn you.

I’m not here to convince you that a one-world government is forming and its mission is to enslave you under the ruse of environmentalism. I’m just here to warn you.

I’m not here to convince you that we’re being brainwashed to accept very sinful things that lead to our own destruction. I’m just here to warn you.

I’m not here to convince anyone that the bible holds the truth. That you’re a sinner in need of salvation through Jesus Christ. I’m just here to warn you.

I’ve done my part. My soul can be at rest knowing I’ve warned you.

Now it’s up to you to ask what you should do with that warning.
