All things were made through Him

by | Aug 26, 2025

Joh 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:2  He was in the beginning with God.
Joh 1:3  All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
Joh 1:4  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
Joh 1:5  And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
I greatly appreciate this book from the late 1800s. Alfred is doing a great job exploring some of the concepts of God according to Jewish tradition, as well as Stoicism and Plato’s ideas.
It’s interesting to learn that while it was always understood (by the Jews) that God is not in time, space, or matter, and because of this, He even had no name, just names for God.
This is different, as many of the mythologies gave their gods names.
And because God was nowhere, when Adam sinned, he was hidden somewhere, believing he could hide from God.
And finally, as per the images, this greatly helps explain a lot. As God is perfect, He can only create the perfect; He made our perfect souls.
All other things were created through the Word (Jesus or Logos). He explains that the connection between our flesh and our soul is our sensual desires, which have no previous connection to heaven.
That explains how our sin separates us from God. Our sensual desires of the flesh overpower our intelligent spiritual soul. Hence, sin cannot be reasoned with. Someone deep in their sin cannot be reasoned with.
And despite our efforts, no one comes to Christ based on the evidence. They come because they understand how deeply their sensual sin has deceived them. They know there is no man-made cure for sin, and only God can heal us from it.
Jesus is the word, the reason, and the purpose. Our faith in Him is equally sensual as it is reasonable. You cannot understand God without sensualness because that connects our flesh to our soul. And, you cannot understand God without His word, which brings reasoning.
If you’re relying on one more than the other, you are deceived. Truth and love must be paired.
