The short/simple version for those who don’t know it…
King Jehoshaphat of Judah was informed that a great army of three other kingdoms was on their way to wage war with him.
He sought the Lord in fear. Judah followed this same action. They gave thanks for all they had been through, they expressed their concerns and gave them to the Lord.
The spirit of the Lord came upon a few individuals in the assembly of believers and told them this battle is not yours. You’ll not have to fight.
But, go position yourselves for the battle. Stand still and know the Lord is with you. They sent the worshippers out to sing praise to God.
The three other armies had then turned on each other and slaughtered themselves, leaving Judah with their valuables and jewelry.
Again, this is my short version of the story, and it continues from there. Well worth the read. Link in comments.
Every time I read it, I get a new perspective.
I can’t imagine the fear of Jehoshaphat knowing all the people that were his responsibility in this. If he failed, he would be to blame. He had no choice but to have faith in God.
The people who were warriors, ready to fight as they had been trained, and were told no, we’re going to send the best singers out first. I mean, how absurd does that sound?
To the singers, who loved to sing praise to God, told “you first” That’s right, you’re going to hold the front line. Those who were born and bred to fight, they’re staying behind.
And to all those in between who had various doubts and fears of the entire situation, and they were simply told, be still, and know that God is with you. Don’t worry, the singers got this.
God works in ways we can’t fathom, usually counter to our own understanding. The problem is that most of us refuse to get out of the way and allow him to. We’re so focused on how we can fix the problem, we forget to turn to God first.
Yes, I fully understand that I’m pointing that finger at myself.
Vulnerable moment. I've been feeling a little lost as of late. A little overwhelmed. Feeling like I don't have control of certain circumstances I want to. I feel like my life has been going down one path and there is a call coming from behind me saying "Stop! You've...
A stern warning to the rich oppressors
A stern warning to the wealthy that are corrupt and take advantage of those poorer than them. Your time will come. Not at the hands of those you oppress, but God himself will not resist his judgement upon you. James was rather serious, firm, and to the point...
Beyond belief
There is no such thing as color when you ask a dog. The land is where you go to die, when you ask a fish. And yet we know both are not true because we have a greater understanding of things than dogs and fish. Are we so ignorant to not believe that things exist beyond...
