Looking for hope in dark times

Went to the conference breakfast this morning and saw a table with a 55-60-year-old man sitting by himself. I asked if I can join him.
We literally talked for 2 minutes and he asked me my thoughts on what was going on in the world today.
I thought, wow, that’s not something I get asked often, most people shy away from such a deep discussion.
So we went back and forth on the hot topics of today of gender identity, critical race teachings, etc., and how it appears the USA is spiralling downhill.
I said, it seems like it’s hard to see hope through all of this doesn’t it?
He responded, “It’s funny you say that. I’m not much of a religious man, but I’ve felt being pulled back to go to church and I’ve attended a few weeks now and they keep talking about the hope we have in Jesus. So I’m on this journey of trying to understand what that is exactly”.
And so we had a great 15-minute discussion on God’s hand through history and what happened when Isreal and Judah turned their backs on God vs when they seek God and how that might be a reflection of what we’re seeing today. While we have a hope in Jesus beyond what the earth can offer us, we also have hope that God does bless nations that repent and serve His will.
I left him with this Billy Graham quote.
“If God doesn’t soon bring judgment upon America, He’ll have to go back and apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah!”
He totally understood and agreed. He shook my hand when we were done and he said thank you for the great conversation and told me he intends to keep going to church because he knows in his heart, this is something much bigger than man. I encouraged him to keep seeking and asking questions.
2 for 2 interesting conversations this weekend that fell on my lap.
Of all my times going out on trade shows over the years, this has never happened. God might be mentioned in passing, but not in deep connecting conversations. Not one of these felt forced and I was not the one to initiate the conversation of God.
It’s only two conversations, but I can’t help but feel like God is stirring up the heart of man.
