Revival Begins with Repentance

“Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the former ways of his father David; he did not seek the Baals, but sought the God of his father, and walked in His commandments and not according to the acts of Israel. Therefore the LORD established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah gave presents to Jehoshaphat, and he had riches and honor in abundance. And his heart took delight in the ways of the LORD; moreover he removed the high places and wooden images from Judah.”
~ 2 Chronicles 17:3-6
Jehoshaphat was the fourth king of Judah. He was known as a high religious character with much zeal. In the previous chapter, we would have read his accomplishments in reforming the kingdom, restoring the justice system, and removing the wooden images, the groves, or the false idols that were being worshipped in the land.
ALL the cities of Judah came to seek the Lord
ALL of Judah stood in front of the Lord
ALL of Judah bowed before the Lord.
Millions of people united, followed the ways of God because of the leadership and example of one man, Jehoshaphat.
Isn’t this the dream of born-again Christians? To get our nations back to Godly ways? To see His blessings? To be united in the same direction, seeking His favor over us?
How many false idols do you give priority to in your life?
How much material objects do you obsess over gaining?
How united is even your church seeking His favor?
Please don’t read that and pretend I’m claiming innocence in any of that.
I’m simply asking the question so that we, the born-again Christians, should ask…
We want to see the world change for the better, and yet we’re refusing to change how we do church for the better, simply because this is how we’ve always done it.
We want the world to turn away from its sin, and then we sit in the pews every Sunday refusing to look at our own.
That’s called hypocrisy…
And I’m not innocent. Can you say the same?
