If you look at the history of language you’ll find that definitions change over time.
If you look carefully, words that describe a factual thing often get changed to describe an emotion of how you feel.
A Gentleman was a man who owned land. Now it’s an emotional description of a man you think is kind.
???? If you were “dumb” it meant you were mute, or silent. Now it’s used as an emotional response toward someone who isn’t doing something you think is smart.
???? “Glamour” was a magical enchantment, now it’s a description used in Hollywood all the time. It’s a style or how you feel “glamorous”.
???? Someone who was “mad” was insane or crazy. Of course, someone had to be proven to be mad based on facts. Now when someone reacts in an upset way, we call them mad.
???? A racist was someone who did a discriminatory act against someone because of their race. Today, it’s an emotional response when someone disagrees with us and are a different race than us. They must be racist.
???? Yesterday we knew that a man was a man, and a woman was a woman by scientific fact. Today we’re told, it’s an emotional state of the person. If a man believes himself to be a woman, he is a woman.
???? Yesterday we knew what it meant to be a pedophile and it was unacceptable. Today we’re told it’s called a “minor-attracted person” and we need to hold space for their emotional attraction.
???? Worship described real actions you did to honour God, now it describes how you feel when you sing to God. “That was great worship”.
Not long ago we could study the bible’s facts and know that it was good. From its factual history to its factual knowledge of how people and civilizations work.
But then people’s emotions get in the way of sound doctrine.
How they feel becomes more important than what God says.
You can see this within the church and outside of it. Some denominations focus more on the emotional state rather than the logical one and are easily deceived. Some people who have had a bad emotional experience with the church have left.
Satan loves human emotions because that is where his lies work the best. He takes the truth, the facts, and twists them into an emotional lie.
Don’t get me wrong. Emotions are from God. They’re designed for us to use and enjoy. But as the bible says, our hearts can deceive us. This is why we need a balance and check for our emotions.
We need a foundation of sound doctrine that is steadfast to keep us on the straight and narrow when the world is ever-changing due to its emotional state.
We need something that can anchor us down and hold us in place when the world is in the middle of an emotional storm.
We know we’re in the middle of a spiritual battle right now because our factual definitions are being changed to emotional ones. Our emotions are being played with to distract us from THE factual foundation of the bible.
But many don’t see it because of their emotional detachment from God and the bible. Because the bible calls their emotional addiction to something defined as sin, and they can’t handle that fact.
The truth is, we’re all sinners by the very definition. Slaves to our emotions which cause us to sin. And as we can see through all of the changing definitions of words, sin leads to the death of the spirit (soul).
It’s not by becoming perfect or being your best self today in which you are redeemed of your sins. We are emotional creatures, therefor we sin. We cannot escape that.
It’s knowing that God has shown us by example how to not be ruled by our emotional sin, while also removing the death caused by sin through His Son Jesus Christ.
???? Being a Christian does not make one sinless or perfect.
It’s a dedication to give Jesus Christ the lordship of your life. To follow Him instead of the world. Not because of a blind faith or an emotional response, but because it makes logical sense when you study it. It is only to the emotionally driven world that it seems nonsensical.
He is the everlasting God and His word endures forever. Christianity may rise in popularity just as it may fall, but it never goes away. We can see this today in China as Christians risk their lives just to share one page of the bible at a time. In the darkest of places, Jesus shines His light of hope and joy.
I Peter 1:25
But the word of the LORD endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.
I Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.
Romans 16:18
For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.
Deuteronomy 11:16
Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them.
Psalms 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
