Unpopular opinion on slavery
Unpopular opinion.
Slavery is a part of history. For many, it was the only way that they were able to find a good place to live, eat, and have warm shelter.
I’m not going to pretend there weren’t horrific things that happened to slaves or that there weren’t specific races that have suffered because of slavery. That would be ignorant.
But with all that was dark in history, there is always light.
Many Christians in America purchased slaves. I know, shocking.
But what you don’t hear is that many of those slaves were so happy to be purchased by those Christians. People who gave them a good place to live and work. Christians who witnessed to them. Christians who respected them as human beings and creations of God.
But the history books won’t teach you that. Anyone who owned a slave was in the wrong.
They also won’t tell you, that some black people who were very wealthy also owned other black slaves, and treated them horribly.
You see, sin and evil knows no race. It’s humans that want to visually categorize what hate looks like.
Today the message is that white Christians that want to conserve biblical values are what hate looks like.
But it was those same white people with Christian values they want to preserve that also pushed to end slavery.
Again though, there were some Christians that were against the idea. The Bible is very clear, none are perfect, we’re all sinners.
But it’s God that works through the darkest parts of history to allow people to see His Glory.
Today slavery still exists. Just like back then. We’re all slaves to our sin. At some point in history it takes on the physical appearance of slavery in North America in the last few hundred years. Other times it manifests like in Ancient Egypt. But it’s the same sin we’re called to turn away from.
We will never escape the slavery of our sins if we keep pointing our fingers at groups and blaming them. We must look internally and understand that we all have a sinful nature within us that enslaves us and allows us to enslave others.
The Bible tells us how much God hates pride. It doesn’t take much to see how pride festers slavery.
It’s pride that tells the LGBTQXZY+ people that the world must bow to their sexual beliefs.
It’s pride that tells the BLM supporters to riot and cause destruction because of black injustice.
And yes, it’s pride that causes Christians to act out of the character of God and sin just like any other individual.
There are so many examples I can’t bother to list them all. but there is one difference. It’s the Christians that are called to examine their sins and ask themselves, does what I did look like Jesus Christ? Does what I say show people the light?
Are my actions that of someone that is free of the slavery of sin?
This is because Christians that are strong in their faith know that they were bought for a price. That their souls were owned by the devil who enslaved them. When Jesus Christ paid that price, He took ownership of you. Your soul is owned by Him. That’s why He’s much more than a saviour. He’s Lord. He had Lordship over you. That’s why Christians are to be servants to and of Him.
Christians are to know more than anyone else that we’re still sinners and make mistakes. The difference is forgiveness so that we may repent. Not that we may have pride in that somehow we’re superior than others.
A stern warning to the rich oppressors
A stern warning to the wealthy that are corrupt and take advantage of those poorer than them. Your time will come. Not at the hands of those you oppress, but God himself will not resist his judgement upon you. James was rather serious, firm, and to the point...
Why does the world hate the concept of sin?
Why does the world hate the concept of sin?
They say it’s because it’s a religious construct in order to control people.
In reality, it’s looking at our deepest, darkest, and ugliest flaws and desires and knowing we have no hope of defeating them. Every single human is tempted by their sin.
Sin starts as a tiny seed, and yet is so powerful that it not only brings death and destruction in our earthly realm but also to our eternity in the spiritual realm.
It’s such an all-encompassing disease that progresses through the life of all mankind it took a loving God with immense grace to come to us as a man, show us the example of what it’s like to be sinless, and then save us from our own sin.
What could Jesus have done with our technology
Some days I think man, what could Jesus have done with our technology and understanding of people today? Think of the impact He could have had. His voice could have been heard across the world all at once. Why wait thousands of years for it to get to only 90% of the...
